Over the past twelve years, I’ve ministered around the world in some of the most challenging regions imaginable. And yet, wonderfully, repeatedly, God has never once failed to meet a need. Not once. His provision has come through doors I never planned to knock on, through people I never expected to meet, and in ways so unusual that only God could get the credit.
Maybe that’s why the book of Ezra struck me so deeply this week. God reminded me that He does not operate inside our small, nervous definitions of what’s possible. He doesn’t pace the floors of Heaven, wondering how He will pay for His own work. God moves freely, creatively, and often shockingly to accomplish His will.
In Ezra chapter 1, God reached into the heart of King Cyrus of Persia—a pagan king—and stirred his spirit to rebuild the Temple of God in Jerusalem. Cyrus publicly declared, “The LORD God of heaven… hath charged me to build him an house at Jerusalem.” And he did. Scripture says Cyrus called all sorts of people to join the work. Some brought silver, some gold, goods, animals—whatever God moved them to give. Verse 6 states they strengthened the work with their giving. And as if God wanted us to recognize the magnitude of their generosity, chapter 2 ends by saying the people “offered freely… and gave after their ability unto the work.” God moved hearts, and people responded with joyful generosity.
For nearly three years on this blog, I have written to encourage, strengthen, and sometimes gently provoke hearts on a broad range of topics. This platform has never been a place to ask for help. That is not God’s pattern in my life. I have always preferred to pray quietly and trust God as I minister in His work.
But the Lord pressed something on my heart this week. In the same way Cyrus openly shared the work God had charged him to do, there are times when we, too, are called to do the same. Sometimes God wants the need to be seen so that others might step forward and share in the work He is bringing about.
So today, I’m stepping forward in that same spirit. I want to invite you to be a part of something God is building here in El Salvador.
If you follow my ministry, then you know that this year I have been devoted to serving the homeless, addicts, prostitutes, and the forgotten--those left behind in our ghettos and brothels. Frequently on Facebook, I share pictures from the streets—the faces, the moments, the small victories God allows. I tell the stories of the individuals He has given me the privilege to help, and of those who have called on Christ for salvation.
By God’s grace, early next year, the plan is to open a Recovery Home—a place where people can live, receive daily biblical guidance, find stability, and learn to walk with Christ. God has already provided a landlord with a property that can be used for the ministry. God is opening doors I never could have pried open myself. And now He is asking me—and perhaps you—to take the next step.
Before we can open the doors, the home needs to be furnished. We need eight bunk beds, one stove, sheets and pillows, two mirrors, three closets, hygiene toiletries, towels, a couch, daily food supplies, and a pickup truck.
Already, God is moving. One of our faithful prayer warriors donated funds for 100 Bibles and 20 hymnals. Another brother purchased 5,000 tracts. Someone else bought a washing machine. These are the kinds of small miracles that let me know God’s hand is in this.
To complete the preparation of the home, we need $5,000 to purchase all these items and additional supplies, excluding the cost of a truck. I’m asking, sincerely and prayerfully, if God would move your heart to help. This is not about raising money—it is about raising people. Souls who need healing. Souls who need another opportunity. Souls that Christ will transform.
Paul wrote in Philippians 4:17, “Not because I desire a gift: but I desire fruit that may abound to your account.” And in Colossians 1:28 he said, “Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.”
That is why I’m writing today. For fruit. For souls. For lives that will one day stand perfect [complete] in Christ. And I invite you to share in this sacred responsibility with me.
