God's meaning of success prompts us to reevaluate what truly matters—be it money, family, business, or community. When our primary pursuit becomes God and His Kingdom, everything else falls into place. Instead of chasing material gain, we discover a profound sense of peace, a boundless joy, and a clear purpose that far surpasses what the world has to offer.
We do not need to be a seeker of money; we need to be a seeker of God. Money is fleeting; it cannot fulfill the deepest longings of your soul. When we seek God first, He provides for our needs in ways that far exceed what wealth or business deals could ever do. God is our trustworthy source—not wealth, career, or earthly possessions. He promises to meet all our needs when we place our trust in Him.
Don't seek the foods, waters, and things of this life—seek GOD and His Kingdom instead. Jesus told us, "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you" (Matthew 6:33). The things of life—food, water, shelter, and security—are essential, but they should not be our top priorities. Even water?—YES! Because while it sustains our bodies, it can never quench our spiritual thirst. Our daily goal should be to seek a deeper relationship with God. When we focus on Him, He takes care of everything else.
When we prioritize our relationship with God, we begin to see the opportunities He places in front of us. Here's the truth: the harvest is already ripe, yet many of us distance ourselves from it, trying to create our own harvest. We're so busy chasing our definitions of success and stability that we miss the opportunities God has already prepared for us to impact the lives of others around us. We don't have to create a harvest—God has already done that. All we need to do is step into the fields He's prepared.
When we recognize that our goals are misplaced, this can open our eyes to the true purpose behind our pursuits. Whether we are working in business or ministry, the focus should always remain on seeking and honoring God while serving others. By realigning our priorities, we can find greater fulfillment and success in our daily actions. This mindset shift can lead to transformative experiences, not just for ourselves but for those around us.
For example, many people misunderstand the true purpose of ministry. They often believe that the aim is simply to gather a group of people and build a church. Consequently, many become frustrated and even quit when their results don't match their expectations. They forget that Christ's purpose for us is to minister to those around us. Ministry isn't the final destination; rather, the real goal is to serve others faithfully—whether by passing out gospel tracts, sharing Christ in conversations, building friendships, or leading Bible studies. When we embrace the process of serving others while seeking God first, we find true fulfillment. Success in ministry is not measured by numbers or results but by how faithfully we walk in God’s purpose, allowing Him to transform our efforts in ways we could never imagine.
The same misunderstanding often applies to business. Many people mistakenly believe that the primary goal of business is to make money. In reality, the true purpose of business, like ministry, is to provide a needed service or product that benefits others. Those who grasp this principle of God's economy often experience a deeper sense of peace, joy, and purpose in their work. By focusing on serving others through their business, rather than merely chasing profit, they find fulfillment because their success is aligned with a higher calling.
Now, let me be clear: there is nothing wrong or sinful about being business-minded or gifted in the world of business. In fact, many individuals are blessed with skills, understanding, and resources that enable them to excel in this arena, and God uses them in incredible ways. Some of the most generous and impactful supporters of missions, the church, and the Gospel of Jesus Christ are business owners who glorify Christ through their diligent work. They use their wealth and talents to bless others and further God's mission.
The key focus is to ensure that our endeavors, goals, and pursuits align with God's ultimate purpose for our lives: to honor Christ, share the Gospel, and remain faithful to God's work. When approached with the right heart, motives, and priorities, business can serve as a powerful tool for glorifying God.
The world insists that we must pursue after a never-ending success, but this is not so in God’s ways. True success emerges when we prioritize pursuing God and His Kingdom above all else. When we shift our focus from the temporary to the eternal, we discover that genuine fulfillment is not found in what we can do or accumulate but in how we give, how we serve, and in the depth of our relationship with God, His Word, and His church.
As Jeremiah 10:23 reminds us: "O Lord, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps." We cannot direct our own path. When we walk with God in close fellowship, He directs our steps and gives us the knowledge, understanding, and wisdom to do it along the way.
Let's remember: God is our trustworthy source. It's not money, not career, not merchants, and certainly not things. When we pursue God above all else, we uncover a richness in life that surpasses anything this world can offer. Success, in God's eyes, isn't measured by what we achieve or own but by the depth of our trust in Him and how faithfully we live out His calling in our lives.
