You see, we don’t start life on steady ground—we begin in freefall. Because of sin, we are already separated from God, already plummeting toward a spiritual death —an eternity in Hell, unless Someone intervenes. And yet, most people spend their lives pretending the fall isn’t happening. We distract ourselves. We keep busy. We chase achievements, relationships, and pleasures, pretending they can somehow stop what we all sense is coming. But they can’t. That’s why Jesus came. To interrupt the fall. To reach out with nail-pierced hands and catch us before it’s too late. That’s the grace of Christ—He offers life while we’re still falling. The question is not whether you're falling. The question is whether you'll let Him catch you.
This week, I was invited to preach at a funeral. When I arrived, I greeted friends and family and chatted with folks for a little while. I didn’t know who the deceased was—until I stepped closer to the casket. And then my heart dropped. There, lying cold and still, was a man I had spoken to just three weeks ago. I had knocked on his door and tried to talk to him about salvation. But he didn’t want to listen. He shrugged me off. Maybe he wasn’t feeling well. Perhaps he thought he still had time. Maybe he thought I was just another soulwinner with an agenda. But what he didn’t know… was that eternity was only three weeks away.
And now... I don’t know where his soul is. I so hope he cried out to Christ before his final breath. I pray something stirred in him before the end, that perhaps in those last moments, he remembered the name I spoke to him—the name of Jesus Christ—and called out for grace. Because God is gracious, even in a dying breath. But I also know what Jesus warned: “broad is the way that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat…and narrow is the way which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” Not everyone who dies goes to Heaven. That’s not a harsh statement—it’s a loving warning from the mouth of Christ Himself. The broad road is easy. Comfortable. Popular. But it ends in destruction. And many go that way without considering their eternity.
Friend, are you listening?
This is not just a blog post. It’s not just a powerful metaphor. This is your soul we’re talking about. Life is short. Death is certain. And your soul is eternal. You’ve heard the truth before—maybe dozens of times. Christ has knocked on your heart more times than you can count. But each time you brush Him off, the fall continues. You’re still descending. And the ground is closer than you think.
The truth is, you don’t need to be old to die. You don’t need to be sick. You don’t need to see it coming. You only need to be human. And every human has an expiration date. There will come a moment when your heart beats for the last time, and your spirit will leave your body to stand before the God who made you. And when that moment comes, you won’t be judged based on how kind you were or how successful or how spiritual you appeared on the outside. You’ll be judged by one thing alone—did you let Jesus Christ catch you? Did you surrender your life to Christ, the only Faithful One who could stop the fall and give you eternal life?
Please, don’t wait until impact. Don’t gamble with eternity. That man in the casket had no idea he had only three weeks left. You might have three decades... or three hours. None of us knows. But we all fall. That’s why today matters. Right now matters. Jesus isn’t knocking on your heart to scare you—He’s knocking because He loves you. Because He knows what’s coming. Because He’s the only One strong enough to catch your soul before it crashes into the flames of Hell and is lost forever.
If you’ve been brushing Christ off, please reconsider. If you’ve been making excuses, stop! If you’ve been pretending you're fine without God, humble yourself. Let Christ catch you. Let Jesus save you. Please don’t wait until it's too late. Surrender to Jesus Christ today—the only God, the Faithful Savior, the One who gave His life to save yours. Because He loves you. Because He wants you. Because He’s reaching for you even now, mid-fall.
Will you let Him?
