It's easy to feel disillusioned when we see hypocrisy committed "in the name of Jesus" by fellow Christians. We might wonder how people who profess to follow Christ can act in ways that seem so contrary to His teachings. But in these moments, it's crucial to remember that Christianity is not about following flawed humans—it's about following the Lord Jesus Christ, who is always faithful, always good, and never fails.
In the book of Matthew 4:19, Jesus gave the instructions to "Follow me." He didn't say to follow others because He knew that people, even with the best intentions, would inevitably fail us. People quite often can be unfaithful, unreliable, and imperfect. But Jesus is the opposite of all that. He is faithful, good, and perfect. Jesus is Lord and God. His love, patience, and grace remain constant even when people fall short.
When fellow Christians let us down and disappoint us, it's a reminder of our own human frailty and the need to keep our focus on Christ. Even Jesus Himself faced betrayal, abandonment, and injustice from those closest to Him, yet He remained steadfast in His mission. By keeping our eyes on Him, we find the strength to press on despite the shortcomings of others.
I share these frustrations because, first and foremost, I am human and sometimes need a way to vent. More importantly, they highlight the importance of looking to Christ and following Him. Placing our trust in people often sets us up for disappointment. However, when we place our trust in Jesus, we stand on an unshakeable foundation. He is the cornerstone that holds us steady through life's disappointments.
So, if you've encountered similar frustrations, take heart. Remember, your faith is not in fallible humans but in an infallible Savior—a perfect, wonderful, patient, kind, gracious, and encouraging Person—the Lord Jesus Christ. He calls us to follow Him, and in Him, we find the ultimate example of how to live and keep moving forward. Keep your eyes on Christ, and let His faithfulness inspire you to continue on your journey, even when others let you down. Jesus is always with you, guiding and loving you every step of the way.
