In the darkness of hell, Jesus hung alone
On a cross, he suffered for us to atone
He bore our hell and drank its bitter cup
So we could be saved, from its depths lifted up.
He bore our sins, His soul was crushed
His body was mangled, His flesh was flushed
In death, He descended to hell's darkest place
So that we might be saved by his mercy and grace.
As the weight of sin pressed down on His soul
He cried out to God, His voice a mournful toll
The agony He felt, no words can express
But He endured it all, so we could be blessed.
So that by Christ salvation is through His name
He took our punishment, our guilt and our shame
He triumphed over death, sin and the grave
Our debt paid in full, our souls He bled to
